AMAISB’S DECADE OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN THE KINGDOM

After 10 long years of being one of the noteworthy provider of quality education in the Kingdom, AMA International School – Bahrain   continues to provide students with an educational program that fosters teaching and learning.   We believe that students should have a variety of learning experiences to give them the opportunity to experience authentic learning and to provide them with a variety of hands – on activities to enhance their critical thinking skills.   Our teachers make every effort to address the whole child through creative but realistic approaches with a particular emphasis on academic excellence.   Students are encouraged to use their creativity in finding solutions to problems.

Continuous shaping of educational program…

AMAISB continues to shape its educational program to meet the developmental needs of all grade level students by staffing our school with educators who understand this unique developmental stage of the learners.   Our educators recognize the uniqueness and rate of growth of students at this phase in their lives and make every effort to nurture them emotionally, academically and socially.

To motivate and engage our students in the learning process, teachers expose students to a variety of project – based and interdisciplinary learning experiences to allow them to see the inter – connectedness of teaching and learning. Our staff and faculty continue to incorporate a variety of learning activities/experiences to inspire, motivate and challenge our students.   Some of these instructional and curricular approaches are:

  • Interdisciplinary/Thematic Units
  • Hands – on activities
  • Integration of Technology
  • Interactive Learning
  • Student – Centered Activities
  • Constructivist Teaching
  • Flexible Grouping
  • Learning Centers

Strengthening students’ learning and support programs…

Students in regular classes who experience difficulties in basic areas of learning and behavior, regardless of the cause are supported through Learning and Support resources available in their local school.

TUTORIAL PROGRAM

The after-school tutorial is intended to provide supplemental instruction to academically weak students. The tutorial scheme, to be facilitated by senior and well-trained teachers, is designed to give the necessary academic support to students to help them develop their skills, knowledge and confidence necessary for their current and future studies.

READING AND MATHEMATICS COGNITIVE INTERVENTION PROGRAMS

The programs incorporate effective direct instruction components for teaching a multitude of reading and mathematics skills. General interventions include direct instruction components of modeling/demonstration, prompting, correcting errors, providing plenty of opportunities to respond, repeated practice and shaping and reinforcing responses. Students’ progress will be monitored based on improvement in class performance and class marks.

EXTENDED REVISION PROGRAM

The program is intended for students who need extra time in revising for the examinations with their subject teacher. It will be free of charge and the number of students selected per class to be part of the program will be limited to a manageable size to maintain focus on the part of the students and teachers.

High achievers also have special characteristics and needs requiring thoughtful attention, although these students are generally self-directed. High achievers absorb information quickly and are able to generate advanced ideas. They learn with ease and often perform at the top of their group. They tend to be focused learners who work and study hard. In order to further enhance their multiple, complex and challenging interests and goals, a program is designed by the school for them.

ADVANCED LEARNING PROGRAM

The program can intensify instructional delivery. Teaching strategies divide complex skills into smaller manageable “portions” of learning, considering carefully to best way to teach the discrete “portions” to achieve the required learning goals. The strategies provide scaffolding or temporary supports to control the level of difficulty throughout the learning process. A task is divided into multiple steps or processes and is taught to mastery before bringing together the entire process.

The primary goal of improving our services, its facilities, and to make AMAISB the leading provider of quality education in the pre-school, elementary and secondary levels   is to raise expectations for ALL

students while creating a learning environment of continuous teaching and learning so ALL students can be successful.   Curriculum is constantly being redefined and realigned in order to address all concerns as what students need to learn and be able to do, rather than what is taught.
