AMA International School-Bahrain once again will make one of its biggest leaps as it continues to provide quality education in the Kingdom.
The institution has been in constant process of improvement. With its humble beginnings dating back in September 2004, the school started its operations in rented villas in Budaiya. From a total enrolment of 126 budding students wanting to acquire the necessary skills to embrace the ever-changing world, the number of students since then rose to an extensive figure with its present enrolment totaling to 964.
To carry on the advocacy of delivering quality instructions and providing better facilities to its stakeholders, the AMA Education System under the leadership of H.E. Ambassador Amable R. Aguiluz V, Chairman, recently decided to expand AMAISB’s school grounds by acquiring a new property and location in Salmabad. With the speeding-up of the construction of the new school site, it is anticipated that by September 2014, the new school year will be started there.
According to Ms. Marietta S. Sicat, the School Director, the relocation and expansion of the school is a result of the ever increasing population of students. By providing them with excellent facilities that will aid better teaching and learning, the ultimate goal of achieving quality education will by far be realized. She said, “Great challenges lie before us, many of which are large and complex. At AMAISB, together, however, we will meet them, and together we will resolve them. How we accomplish this will require all our collective skills, talents, time and efforts. We firmly believe that if we invest in the future, it will be for the benefit of our students--and subsequently, their children's and their grandchildren's. The very least we owe them is a legacy upon which to build. Our first investment priority will always be our students and our campus, and rightly so.”
Education does not happen in a vacuum. To enhance learning opportunities, our students must have facilities that support their efforts. Although there has been much development, and many improvements at AMAISB over the past years, we always see to it that our priority still adheres to the excellent delivery of quality education coupled with excellent facilities.
AMAISB follows the American Curriculum that is enhanced by the world-renowned Great Explorations in Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program, which was developed by experts in the field of Science and Mathematics Education from the Lawrence Hall of Science of the University of California in Berkeley, USA. As such parents are assured that their children will reach the attainment levels required.
AMAISB is the Kingdom’s first school to offer Robotics as a key part of the curriculum. The program challenges the intellectual and critical thinking skills of each student in Mathematics and Science.
For the school year 2013-2014, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Program for Grade 9 students commenced as addition to the existing curriculum.
In the same year, AMAISB became one of 11 IB World Schools in Bahrain to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) starting SY 2014 – 2015.
It was approved by the College Board to be one of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Testing Centers in Bahrain with its first Test Administration on December 7, 2013.
To prepare all our students, regardless of their circumstances, for work and life in the 21st century, we ensure that optimum services, resources and support are provided in order to enhance the performance of all learners. Their harmonious co-existence facilitates the school in promoting valuable international understanding by providing them with opportunities to reciprocally share universally suitable ideas, cultural norms, customs and beliefs thereby developing a sense of unity among them.
